Suicide is never a good solution for any problem. However, millions of people suffer from mental disabilities, such as depression, that can remove a person's ability to control his or her emotions. Those who bully others into thoughts of suicide will earn their reward of eternal shame, and they will wish that they had been the ones with the disability.

Integrity
Few people understand what true integrity is, and even fewer possess it. The choice to do what is right, especially when no one is looking, is a moral trait that has never been popular among the prideful. The world is filled with hypocrites who lack integrity, and many of them are unfortunately our business and government leaders. We cannot force them to have integrity, because they will still secretely choose to do bad things. All we can do is pray to possess integrity ourselves and hope that our examples will influence others to do good.

Self Defense
Taking away people's right to defend themselves from physical harm is not humane. It is even worse to prevent a country from defending itself from its enemies. The US Constitution was designed to give Americans rights that could never be taken away, and now the government leaders are trying to take them away. Americans need to fight for what is right until the government falls apart, and then they need to continue to fight for their rights, or they will not survive.

Chexting
Cell phones are becoming a popular way for people in relationships to secretly cheat on their partners, but technology should not be blamed for this. People who want to have secret affairs will have them whether they communicate through written letters, phone calls, or text messages. Cheating via text messages is easy and fast, and the evidence is disposable. However, text messaging will not keep an affair from becoming public. Tiger Woods can testify of that. Bad people will always find ways to do bad things

The Lord Loves Technology, And I Do Too
Advancements in technology benefit everyone even if they do not believe in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. However, the Lord allows these advancements to occur in order for His church to spread faster around the world. There have not been any major technological developments that have not helped the church to expand. Computers are just one of the ways that the church is able to spread information about the restored gospel. Technology in the future will be fascinating, and all of the new advancements will help everyone on Earth get the chance to hear about the gospel.

Code For Everyone
Open-source projects have changed the world, even for the people who do not know what open-source means. Very few people besides software developers and hackers use open-source software or operating systems, but such software has forced mainstream computer software companies to change their own software to implement many of the beneficial aspects that developers freely give to others through open-source code. Free software that is accessible and editable by everyone will continue to grow in power and popularity, but it will never be as widely used as purchased software.

The World Is Flat
The world is obviously not physically flat. The fact that the world is round was proven centuries ago. However, it is easy to see that the world is flat both economically and socially. Poland is a perfect example to show why. Before 1989, Poland was ruled by Communism and seemed to be separated from the rest of the world. After the end of the Cold War, and after many years of change, Poland's economy strengthened and became influential in the world economy. With today's technology, someone in America can have a live video chat with someone in Poland. The fact that they are on separate sides of the world seems insignificant when they can see and hear each other instantly. They seem so much closer to each other when there is no need to wait a week for a letter or travel for fifteen hours to see each other. Not only is the world getting smaller with advances in technology, but it is also getting flatter whenever it becomes easier to connect with others anywhere on Earth.

Copyright Laws
When someone makes a copy of his or her own purchased media, whether it is music, movies, or pictures, and keeps it for personal use, I do not believe it should be illegal. After I buy a new movie DVD or music CD, the first thing I do is make a digital copy of it so that my wife and I can watch or listen to it on my iPhone, my computers, my AppleTV, and my iPod. When companies put restrictions, like only being allowed to listen to a purchased song for thirty days, on copyright material, it will only make more people want to find other means of obtaining media, especially if they can find what they want that has no restrictions for free. There is no way of stopping piracy with brute force. It can only be done by educating people and providing legal alternatives.

The Internet is unstoppable
There is no way to prevent it. Everyone will eventually be connected via the Internet, and soon it will be available everywhere. Wi-Fi is making that possible. Planes and trains are already giving free Internet service to passengers. In the near future, automobiles will host Internet connections that will enable passengers to always be connected to the Internet. The benefits of having unlimited information everywhere are endless.

Hackers Will Never Stop
Computer hackers always have reasons for breaking into networks and computers. Whether it is for entertainment, personal gain, or spite, they can do a lot of damage. If Google, employing some of the world's smartest programmers, can get hacked, it seems like no one is safe online. No matter how much time and money people put into safeguarding information on the Internet, there are almost always loopholes or weak security, and it only takes one smart, determined hacker to find ways to get what he or she wants. Having knowledge is not a bad thing unless someone uses it against others.

Internet Crime
The Internet has opened up countless opportunities for hackers to take advantage of people. Whether a hacker's motive is to steal private information to use for personal gain or to simply put others at a disadvantage by infecting computers with viruses, Internet crime needs to be stopped. Just because physical property is not stolen or damaged does not make it okay. One of the biggest problems with most criminals, even hackers, is that they do not believe that they are doing anything wrong. Thankfully there are many agencies that have been created to stop Internet crime; it is impossible for every victim of a crime to track down the offender who put him or her at harm. I believe that it is important for people to know what is allowed or not allowed to do with computers. The simple knowledge that you are doing something wrong can help to keep you from doing it. The Internet was created to help people quickly and easily transfer information. It was intended to be only a good thing. However, bad people have taken advantage of it and have caused infinite amounts of damage. I hope that Internet crime will some day be controlled and stopped so that we can all use the Internet only for good.

The Purpose of Technology
I doubt that most people truly understand why technology is advancing so quickly today or who deserves credit for its advancement. God is the reason that we have so many new developments in technology, and one of the most important reasons for the advancement is that He wants every person that has ever lived to have the opportunity to accept His gospel. Now that it is so simple to find information about any topic through the internet, anyone can learn about His eternal plan and choose to accept or reject it. I look forward to find out what new forms of technology will benefit us in the near future.

Gadget Failure?
Apple's iPad looks like a glorified iPhone, and the iPad's features do not seem to make it more exciting than any other Apple product. I do not think that buyers will benefit from it unless they do not already own a laptop. It certainly looks like a neat gadget to have, but my iPhone is more portable and can do almost everything that the iPad can do, and my laptop can do everything else. Unless the price of the iPad falls below the price of a delicious meal, I will not buy one.

Women in Hard Sciences
It is surprising to me that some people believe that women are discouraged from pursuing an education in mathematics, science, or engineering. I have never heard that fact from any man or woman in my life. I have observed that there is more focus put on women to get an education than men, at least in computer science. A quarter of the flyers specific to programming are directed towards women, and none are directed solely towards men. The women that I have had the opportunity to live with and work around have generally been smarter and more dedicated than men. From my own experience, women choose to get an education specific to what will help them the most in the future or what they enjoy the most, and it is not because of what others tell them to study.

Bill Gates on Twitter
This past Tuesday, Bill Gates joined the blogging site Twitter and has become one of the millions of users who are already blogging fanatics. I think it is great that celebrities and business giants try to connect with their fans on a more personal level. It is interesting that the day after Mr. Gates joined Twitter, the site crashed temporarily. I have often wondered what retired billionaires do with their free time, but I have never thought that one would spend his or her time updating blogs. If I happened to be retired and have more money than I could imagine, I like to think that I would be able to spend all of my time traveling throughout the world, buying expensive toys, and helping people.

Smallish Post 1
I recently read 4 articles assigned to read before class. They were about technology, but not praising it. They all looked at the power of technology today, and 2 of the writers/speakers seemed unhappy with how technology has taken control of the world. I do not completely agree with the opinions of these men. Neil Postman's spoke about technology change and gave 5 ideas about it. He made many assumptions about information and the effect it has had on the world. I did not agree with all of his ideas or assumptions. He seemed to be trying to send out the message that new improvements in technology are bad or not beneficial to the world. That is something that I strongly disagree with. Technology saves and improves lives. It gives sources of information to those who need it. Improvements in technology benefit the entire world. One of Postman's 5 ideas is that technology is not part of God's plan. I believe that all advances in technology are because of God - if you believe in God, that his goal is to help his children and that he is the reason that your heart beats and that every breath you take is because of him, then it is also true that he helps people who are trying to help others. New technology is created because the inventors think and hope that it will benefit others. Then why wouldn't god help those inventors find improvements to technology to improve lives?

First Post
I am required to make a blog for my CS 404 class. I've never done blogging before, but my wife has, so I know I have someone to help me with all of the technical stuff!
